Aaron is the director of SACHI, the St Andrews Computer Human Interaction research group, deputy Head of School for the School of Computer Science and ACM SIGCHI Adjunct Chair for Specialised Conferences.

In the first semester of the 2015/2016 academic year Aaron will be teaching CS5040 Human Computer Interaction Principles and CS3106 Human Computer Interaction.

Aaron's appointment is part of SICSA, the Scottish Informatics and Computer Science Alliance. In 2013/2014 Aaron was the Deputy Director of SICSA and its Director for Knowledge Exchange and in 2012/2013 he was the co-theme leader for the HCI theme.

In 2014 Aaron was the general co-chair for MobileHCI 2014, program chair for the International Symposium on Pervasive Displays PerDis'14 and an associate chair for the Interaction Using Specific Capabilities or Modalities subcommittee (CHI 2014). In late 2014 Aaron was elected to serve on the board of ScotlandIS "the trade body for software, IT and creative technology businesses in Scotland".

Aaron's research interests include surface and multi-display computing, human computer interaction, pervasive and ubiquitous computing and information visualisation. He has published over 150 internationally peer-reviewed publications including edited volumes, journal papers, book chapters, conference and workshop papers and holds 3 patents. In addition he has served on over 80 program committees and has been involved in chairing roles of over 20 international conferences and workshops including UIST, ITS, CHI, Pervasive, UbiComp, Tabletop, LoCA, UM, I-HCI, BCS HCI and MobileHCI.

Aaron is member of the ACM and is a recipient of the Engineers Australia excellence in engineering education award. He serves as an external examiner, an external board member, a steering committee member and editorial board member and he maintains an active range of professional activities both ongoing and each year.
